Friday Favorites – June 15

Another change in my posting schedule! Yes, when you’re the queen of your blog you can do whatever you want, whenever you want. I’m dictatorial like that.

I’ll keep my First Fridays intact because I love letting my friends share their passions on here. But with all the blogs I read, I thought it’d be fun to share some of my favorite posts each week. I’m also doing more book reviews, so I’ll share those here as well.

(This isn’t an original idea, btw. I’m working through Jeff Goins 15 Day Writing Challenge and on Day 6 he told us to STEAL an idea. (Yeah, that’s how he rolls.) So I’m stealing this idea from Crossmoms who do Show and Tell Saturdays.)

Lori Roeleveld’s title hooked me:

Warning: Sensitive Christians Should Not Read This Post

And her content reeled me in. She’s one I’ll be reading on a regular basis. Be sure to scroll through the comments and consider sharing your thoughts!

If you’ve been wondering what a “meme” is and want to learn about “linking up”, my friend (and guest blogger) Edie Melson had a great post this week:

Meme Mondays—Increase Your Blog’s Visibility through Memes

Edie always has great content and now she’s linking up on Mondays. Be sure to stop by!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’m also going to try to include a recipe each week. I love to cook almost as much as I love to eat, and it seems I’m always pinning recipes.
(If you haven’t checked out Pinterest yet, you probably shouldn’t. I don’t want to be the reason your productivity bottoms out. But if you’ve figured out how to manage your surf schedule, then by all means PIN AWAY.)
This week’s recipe is from Michelle Quigley-Chapman
Baked Banana Pudding
My family is ALL ABOUT banana pudding, so I can’t wait to try this!
Finally, I want to toot my sweet dad’s horn for a minute. I’ve talked to him on the phone almost every single day this week, which isn’t usually a big deal except that this week he’s in ISRAEL on a mission trip with FCA. I shared this earlier in the week on Facebook:
So excited to to hear my dad’s latest adventures:
WITNESSED to an Orthodox Jewess on the flight to Tel Aviv (college girl with lots of questions about Christianity)
BAPTIZED 2 folks from Australia in the Jordan River
PREACHED at Jerusalem Baptist Church last Sunday morning
73 yrs old & still “gettin’ er done” for the Kingdom, and having the time of his life!  Love you, John Rinehart :)
What about you – any fun links you’d like to share?
Leave a comment & the link and I’ll tweet them this weekend!
  1. I like the way you think! Isn’t Lori’s blog refreshing? She tells it like it is – love it! Of course, Edie is always a favorite — and now it looks like the new recipe may also become a fave. Thanks for kicking off this weekend with such likeable links, Susan. By the way, one of my favorite links in recent days is entitled “When Life is A Train Wreck”, thanks to one amazing blogger. :)
  2. Awesome idea, Susan! I’ll look forward to seeing what you’ve found throughout the week!
  3. The blog post that gave me the most spiritual encouragement this week was Robin Bryce’s post “A Spiritual Journey’s Gentle Nudge” at http://www.RobinBryce.com.
    • Hi Jodi. Thank you for the mention here. I’m honored that my work has encouraged you!
      Let’s keep up the good work. For one day, we will arrive in heaven to hear “well done.”
      Blessings galore!
  4. Sorry to reference the wrong post from Robin’s site – it’s still RobinBryce.com, but it’s the “What are you Waiting for? A Gift from God?” post that was very timely and powerful.
  5. Thank you, Susan, for the reference! I look forward to seeing more, too!
    PS–Today marks the first day of Cross Moms Show and Tell Link Up! I hope you will share your beautiful writing there, and please spread the word if you feel so inclined. http://www.crossmoms.com/?p=1298
    Love and God Bless!
    Christy :)
  6. Loved this post, and man, your dad is active and spreading the word at 73. I know you must be so proud of him. Happy Father’s day to him and other special dads in your life. <3
    • Thanks for stopping by, Amberr! And yes, I’m VERY proud of my dad. Happy Father’s Day to YOUR special dads :)
  7. Hey! Thank you for including me, Susan! You’re awesome!
  8. What a great new way to share all of your knowledge! Just curious, how MANY blogs DO you follow? I’ll look forward to these Friday favorites. And on the topic of Pinterest, author Jody Hedlund had a great post on why and how writers need to be active on Pinterest. You can find it here: http://jodyhedlund.blogspot.com/2012/05/why-writers-need-to-seriously-consider.html
    • LOL I follow a little more than a few, which I’ll describe in my Blogmama post next month. I have a way that makes it easy to read a bunch at once. And thanks for the link to Jody Hedlund’s post! I’m putting that in next Friday’s post!!
      btw You’re a prolific blog reader yourself, so please share some more of your finds!
  9. “Queen of your blog”. Love that!
    I love how God puts us together with one another to support and encourage one another, and to work through us. Loved the story of your dad!
    Hmmm. Friday Favorites-this is a great idea to steal. I just may take it. Thanks so much for sharing!
    • Thanks for stopping by, Kim. I’d LOVE for you to steal this idea. I think it’s one that should go viral — sharing other people’s posts!
