I’m joining a fabulous network of bloggers who are blogging for Compassion International this month.
Meet our Compassion kids, Oscar and Alexandra. (His bio card says “Javier” but he prefers his middle name.)
They live in El Salvador and we’re in our third year of sponsorship with them. We love exchanging letters, and they enjoy receiving photos of our family, especially Sophie (our 5 lb Yorkie). They’re very interested in snow, and I just sent them some pictures in hopes they get them at Christmas.
There are thousands of children around the world just like them. Compassion‘s goal for September is to enlist sponsors for 3,108 children. You can choose based on the country, gender or age.
Why not hop over to their “Sponsor a Child” page and see who you find?
I keep the kids’ photos on my desk (and by my coffee), and one thing I pray for them is this:
“Lord, may Your Holy Spirit stir in Oscar and Alexandra’s hearts
during the quiet moments of each day.
Help them to understand that You are always with them and
give them an extraordinary sense of Who You are.
May that constant awareness of Your Presence
shape the way they view themselves and their worlds.
Use the Compassion workers to help them learn
to walk in the joyful hope of eternal life with You.”

BTW – I’m going off the cyber-grid this week! Last Wednesday was our 25th wedding anniversary, and this week we’re spending time away from the normal craziness. (If you missed my 7 Secrets for a Happy Marriage, be sure to check them out and add your favorite tip!)
I’ll be back on the grid next Monday, and things will go back to normal.
Whatever THAT is…
Have a great week!

Enjoy your week off the grid! I must confess, I love those weeks
Thank you for reminding me to pray for our Compassion child today! Think I’ll have our boy write him a letter during school today…
We sponsor a little girl from Honduras through Compassion and it is one of the most rewarding things! We’ve been her sponsors for about seven years and watching her grow has been so much fun.
Respite is a good thing. Savor the time and the occasion that warranted it. Love Compassion Int’l.
Enjoy your time away — well deserved!
Have fun!!
Enjoy your week, Susan… may you return replenished and may you enjoy your time with your best friend!
Praying for a wonderful time of refreshing for you both!! Have fun!!!
Love you!
Susan,
I hope you enjoyed your time away! We, too, sponsor a Compassion child, Karen Cecilia. She, too, sometimes likes to sign her letters with her middle name. She’s in Honduras. It’s been about a year now, I think, since we started our sponsorship. Hannah enjoys knowing she has a “sister” in another country.
Her photo hangs on my bulletin board of important things and people by my desk, where I have my coffee most mornings.
Hi everybody!
Thanks so much for reading and commenting last week. Compassion International is an exceptional ministry, one that CHANGES LIVES. I love hearing from Oscar and Alexandra, and am excited to hear how that CI is halfway to their goal! May they exceed that goal and change the lives of even more impoverished boys and girls around the world!
